The main part of the keyboard (characters and numbers) layout is the same as an ordinary typewriter. The alphabet and numerical keys are where they have always been and are used for normal keying functions. Note: QWERTY Keyboard Layout Apart from the normal typewriter section of the keyboard, there are several functional areas. Along the top of the keyboard are the “function keys” – these are labelled F1, F2, etc and are used to program commands into your computer system. Generally, these are not programmed except for the F1 key, which is the default key for Help. To the right of the alpha/numeric keyboard is a block of command and navigation keys, eg., Insert, Home, Page Up, Delete, End, Page Down and directional arrow keys. Further to the right is a numeric keypad, which should be used for entering numbers. Please note that the numbers are active when the Num Lock Key is active, otherwise the command and navigation keys operate. Along the bottom of the keyboard are the Control (Ctrl), Windows and Alternate (Alt) keys. These are use to give specific commands to the computer. Some of these keys perform other functions when they are needed to do so. The attached diagram should be used to locate other keys of significance, these are: Escape Key - return to previous step Enter Key - used to accept data but is normally to perform the usual ‘carriage return’ function of a normal typewriter PLEASE NOTE DUPLICATE KEYS LOCATED IN NUMERIC KEYPAD
